The “A” in A. Meliora Ranch stands for Androgiennei. This name was chosen some years ago to signify the unity and harmony between men and women. It is derived from the word, “androgynous”, which means having both male and female attributes. Ajen and Jim refer to this as the requirement of the two wings of a bird to be of equal strength in order for flight to occur. This metaphor relates to the principle of the equality between man and woman as being vital to the spiritual progression of humankind.
This “progression” is a common theme of Ajen and Jim’s life’s work. It is derived from the Meliorist philosophy, a philosophy in which had inspired Ajen during her undergraduate days at the University of Rochester. The word “Meliora” carries the Latin meaning of “always better”. It is the pursuit of being better. It is a progression.
Ajen and Jim believe that through the mysterious grace found in this life we all have the potential of being better– being well. To Ajen and Jim, the purpose of this life is to know (live) and to love (serve); and the manner in which we do this is by living our lives authentically and fully in all ways: spiritually , mentally, and .physically.
